Category: Kit-bashed:
Intermodal models that have been kit-bashed from existing models;
FIRST PLACE: MICHAEL DEMPSEY
I would like to enter this model of an
Australian Hino B Double container truck that I kit bashed from photos
of the actual truck, found at the Port of Brisbane.
The prime mover was built from a bogey drive rigid truck, painted and
decaled and then had the scratch built ‘bull bar’ and full air hoses
added. The two container trailers were kit bashed from Deluxe
Innovation skeleton trailers, to reflect the correct lengths of the B
Doubles found in Australia. They were then painted and decaled and have
had air hoses and tool boxes fitted. I wanted to keep this truck
looking new, as most of the owner/operators in Australia keep them
immaculately clean, so only light weathering was done on the truck.

SECOND PLACE: JAN SMITH
This is a CP Rail Gunderson 53' stand-alone
Husky Stack. Unit was made from Kato Maxi IV wells, chopped the
articulated end off, and glued on the unarticulated end from another
end-unit. Added a brake wheel from a photo etch kit by gold medal
models and decals by Microscale and painted out and removed the BNSF
markings. Jan Smith

Category: Scratchbuilt;
Intermodal models that have been built at least 75% from scratch.
FIRST PLACE: JURGEN HANS

See additional photos at: Rail Images.
Here are photographs of my scratch-built pushing-unit, which is used for carrying Containers on European inland waterways.
Drive unit and barge are completely self constructed, most of the
containers are from Walthers, but they are somewhat weathered and the
door fitting are addionally painted. The drive unit is built on a body of plywood. I worked mainly with Styren sheets, the range of thickness between 0,25 mm and 1,0 mm. The
bollards and some other parts are made from brass.
More photographs and "the making of" is to be seen on my homepage: Modellbahn Spur N - Neue_Anlagenfotos

SECOND PLACE: MIKE McGRATTAN
The Canadian Pacific Railway and it's Express
arm; The Canadian Pacific Express Company converted one car in 1965 (CP
4001) and then four others in about 1967 into COFC cars. They produced
twenty containers and then expanded the series to ten cars by the end
of the 1960's.
My model is based on a 80' American Limited core kit, slightly
extended. I used home made styrene for the sides of the car and scale
lumber for the deck; I used but three photo's for reference for the
project. The "cans" are Bachmann and / or Model Power and painted and
given home made decals. The car is virtually scratchbuilt, but the cans
are only decorated by me.[Custom made decals]

THIRD PLACE: MIKE DEMPSEY
I would like to enter this model of a Santa Fe
Mobile Autorack Loading Ramp that I scratch built from photos taken by
a friend, on a trip to America. The loading ramp was built from
different sizes and shapes of Evergreen styrene channel, painted and
then weathered lightly, to resemble the prototype photos.
